A new design of a door handle called Maya because the door is the illusion of seperation like the Hindu/Buddhist concept of reality. I was meant to submit for a design boom competition but forgot! The design had three drivers:

1) Streamlining motion towards the action (opening a door); pull the handle to open and move the door

2) Connectivity, creating a more open connection between indoor rooms thus, enabling inhabitants to communicate easier

3) Reducing the amount of material used to manufacture the handle, the door and the latch mechanism

I tried to relate the mechanical movement and aesthetics. I felt this design was aesthetically good but its strength lies in its simplification of the door latch mechanism. When you pull the door handle the door is also pulled and vice versa for pushing it shut.

I also like the idea that there is no lock on the handle but you only shut the metal slider to show that you do not want to be disturbed.
